It sounds like you are talking about the citation formatters that you'll find in some databases. For example, if you are using the Library Search or any of the EBSCOhost databases, there is a cite oprion that will help you format the citations.

Here are instructions for Library Search and the EBSCOhost databases:

Library Search

  1. Do a search.
  2. From the results page, click the title of the item you want to cite.
  3. In the full record, under "Send to" you should see the citation option. (see image 1)

EBSCO Databases (Example is Academic Search Complete)

  1. Do a search.
  2. From the results page, click the title of the item you want to cite.
  3. In the full record, look for the cite icon in the upper right corner.
  4. Click the cite icon (looks like quotation) and look for the format of citation you need. (see image 2)

Be sure to double check the citation to make sure it's correct before handing in your assignment.
